Since we have many new folks joining us here via MYFest22 and alaos a new group of DS106 students, today tell us about your most important academic/work achievements in something more creative than an dry traditional CV.
But more than that, it is something that represents what perhaps never makes it to a formal one.
That’s right, this is an ALTCV— see Create your #ALTCV: Your Story, Your Terms: Unofficial CV activity
We are used to measuring what we can count in terms of learning, but how do we celebrate the things that matter? We are often asked to tell our stories according to someone else’s standards of what counts, but we are not necessarily asked about what matters to us, what we value, even if it can’t be measured.
We are even usually asked to express ourselves in some semi-standardized format, like a Curriculum Vitae (CV) or résumé. What if we could write a CV that was based not on degrees and position and peer-reviewed publications, but on what we think is most important about who we are and what we are genuinely most proud to have accomplished?
For format, think of clever ways to represent yourself — this is from a while back but a memorable format done by Philippe Dubost who applied for a job at Amazon my making his web site offering himself as something like an Amazon product:
For more ideas, see Create your #ALTCV: Your Story, Your Terms: Unofficial CV activity and/or try some other approaches to make it creative:
- Use a meme generator and put your best stuff on a Wheaties box
- Redo TDC3787 and described your attributes as an ingredients label
- Turn your CV highlights into a poem or song lyrics
- ??? some other original representation
