Mother Earth could use more of our support these days. For today’s prompt, write an ode (either an official form that follows the rules or your own version, that ignores the rules – this is DS106, after all) in support of Mother Earth.
This October (13-27), join the National Writing Project for Write Out 2024. Organized as a public invitation to get out and create, supported by a series of free online activities, Write Out invites educators, students, and families to explore national parks and other public spaces. The goal is to connect and learn through place-based writing and sharing. This year’s theme is Poetry For The Planet! Learn more and sign up: https://writeout.nwp.org

TERRY ELLIOTT
Dear Mom,
Every day we live,
we are sailing together
toward
that undiscovered country.
When we land,
let us explore
that whirring of
hummingbird truth,
that wind chime with
one hand pushing,
that half of a ‘whippoorwill’ call
in the deep woods
filling my cupped hand
with querulous tunes:
all mysteries
in the heart
of the night—
moon-staked.
