Mountain Day is Japan’s newest holiday. So new, in fact, there are not any deeply ingrained traditions surrounding the holiday that was first observed in 2016. The day is celebrated on August 11 because the kanji symbol for August 八 looks like a mountain, and 11 looks like a couple of trees. This seems a good enough reason for us. Celebrate Mountain Day today!
